UIPM - informace

15.03.2020

UIPM family, World Pentathlon athletes and coaches, National Federations, We are facing the most challenging time for our sport due to the outbreak of Coronavirus, but we are not alone. All sports are affected, all industries and business are suffering and some people are losing their lives, losing families and friends ...

While governments around the world are trying their best to control the situation, UIPM has a duty if care and our priority is to safeguard the health of athletes, officials and the many other people involved in our global competition circuit.

We are committed to doing everything that we can to provide fair conditions for all athletes aiming to qualify for the Modern Pentathlon at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

We are continually and carefully monitoring the situation and the advice being provided both internationally and within the nations that make up our global community on an hourly basis.

After more and more countries announced states of emergency in the past few days, the UIPM Executive Board has yesterday made the decision to postpone the remainder of the UIPM 2020 Pentathlon World Cup season until May and June 2020, while UIPM will contact the IOC Sport Department about a one-month extension of the Tokyo 2020 qualification period according to the flexibility that IOC is offering to International Federations.

As of now, there is no change to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualification process for Modern Pentathlon and there is no change to the schedule of the UIPM 2020 Pentathlon World Championships, which has already been relocated to Cancun (MEX) and will take place May 25-31, 2020.

Meanwhile, various contingency scenarios are under consideration and the UIPM Executive Board will continuously discuss all options throughout the evolution of the virus.

UIPM appreciates the understanding, patience and cooperation of all our athletes, coaches and national federations. We are standing together with strong faith in the world and in the international sports community under the leadership of the IOC.

UIPM will be ready to react to this rapidly-changing situation and arrange any steps necessary to protect our sport and our community, while seeking the best available solutions that guarantee a fair Olympic qualification process.

Best regards

On behalf of the UIPM Executive Board
Dr Klaus Schormann | President
Shiny FANG | Secretary General
